The Preacher's Lectionary Notebook - A Litany for Advent on Psalm 72:1-7, 18-19
The Second Sunday of Advent (Year A)
Leader: In this season of watching and waiting, O God, give Your Messiah-King Your justice, and Your righteousness to the One who is to come.
People: Establish the Lord’s reign among us, that God may judge Your people with righteousness and defend the cause of the poor.
Leader: As we await the Savior’s appearing, may the mountains echo with His peace and the hills shine with His righteousness.
People: May He lift up the needy, deliver the weak, and bring an end to every work of oppression.
Leader: May all creation long for Him as long as the sun and moon endure, through every generation.
People: In these days of expectation, let righteousness flourish and let peace abound until Christ comes in glory.
Leader: May the Messiah’s coming be like rain on mown fields, like showers that water the earth.
People: May all people flourish beneath His justice, and may all life be renewed by His peace.
Leader: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.
People: Blessed be God’s glorious name forever; may God’s glory fill the whole earth.
Amen and Amen.
