The Preacher's Lectionary Notebook - A Litany for Advent on Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19
The Fourth Sunday of Advent (Year A)
Scroll of the Psalms from Qumran
Leader: Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead your people like a flock; you who dwell in glory—shine forth. People: Stir up your might and come to save us. Leader: Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, before all your wandering and weary ones, reveal your strength. People: Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved. Leader: How long, O Lord of hosts, will your people cry beneath the weight of sorrow. How long will tears be our food day and night? People: Come, Lord Jesus: restore what is broken, heal what is wounded. Leader: You have made us a scorn to our neighbors; our divisions mock your peace, and the world forgets your compassion. People: Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved. Leader: Set your hand upon the One at your right hand, the Son whom you have made strong—the Hope promised, the Branch that brings life. People: Let your Messiah renew us, that we may never turn from you. Leader: Give us life, and we will call on your name. Speak your word, and we will rise. Shine your light, and we will walk in hope. People: Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen. All: Stir up your might and come to save us.
